OPA Golf Championship 2016
The OPA Annual Golf 2016 was held on the 27th August 2016. As in the previous year, the event was held at the Seremban International Golf Club. Last year’s event is also to commemorate the 90th anniversary of OPA. The tournament attracted a much smaller field of 42 golfers, but there were also Paulians coming all the way from Singapore and New Zealand to participate.
There were not much of surprises in the results. In the Nett category, Henry Foo carded a score of 65 to become the Nett Champion. Henry has always been a contender and was a previous winner couple of years ago. In the Gross category, there was not so much of an excitement either. With defending champion, Chew Joo Keith having an “off day” on the course, Low Seng Koon had no problems in reclaiming his lost crown when he returned an unbeatable score of 78. The senior category went to Michael Yan Wee Fong while Nicky Wong Ming Wei won the guest category.
On the request of the sponsor, a special arrangement was made to “enlarge” the hole by another 6 inches to make it easier to get a winner. Thus a circle measuring 6 inches from the circumference was drawn as a way to “enlarge” the hole. But sadly all the actions was in vain and for another year no one was lucky enough for this “special” hole in one” prize.
In his speech, the Organising Chairman, Mr. Steven Chan offered a sincere vote of thanks to all the sponsors for their continued support. Sponsors for the event were the generous and consistent cash donors, Mr. Keith Chan, Paulian from Class of 77 and Mr. Henry Yap, Paulian from Class of 66. Mr. Edwin Wong and Messrs Trendway Resources Sdn Bhd sponsored some goodies and prizes. As usual, Mr. Francis Yew of Heineken Malaysia Berhad sponsored the free flow of Tiger beer and the above mentioned “special” hole in one prize was sponsored by Mr. Stephen Loo of Messrs. Lady Americana. It has to be acknowledged that this yearly tournament would not have reached these heights without the assistance of the organizing committee members who had sacrificed their time leading up and during the tournament. Their support is deeply appreciated!
