The OPA Annual Golf was held on the 5th September 2015 in Seremban International Golf Course. The event overwhelmingly attracted a field of 21 flights with 82 golfers consisting of Paulians, Lasallians and guests with some Paulians coming form as afar as Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Former national lady champion, Lim Ai Lian also participated in the tournament. The main attraction and glamour was the “Hole in One” prize for a Honda City car sponsored by Mr. Billy Wong from Ban Lee Heng Motors Sdn Bhd.
“A new star is born”, when Chew Joon Keith produced a stunning performance to emerge as the new Champion for the Gross category. He finished with a score of 79 to displace previous back to back winner, Low Seng Koon, who had to settle as the nett winner of the System 36 Stableford category. Raghbir Singh won the senior category while Shashi Subramaniam won the Guest category.
Organizing Chairman, Steven Chan in his speech offered a sincere vote of thanks to all the main sponsors, namely, Mr. Billy Wong, from Ban Hing Lee Motors Sdn Bhd, Mr. Chris Loo from Lady Americana, Mr Francis Yew of Guinness Tiger, Mr Keith Chan and Mr. Henry Yap. The Chairman further acknowledged that the tournament would not have reached these heights without the great support from his committee members who have always been a pillar of strength when it comes to work ensuring the great success of the Tournament.
The honour-roll will not be complete without special mention of the outgoing committee member, Uncle Philip John Siow, who has decided to call it a day after his many years of ceaseless support for the golf committee. Uncle John Siow’s services and dedication are immeasurable. His service to his alma mater and particularly to OPA Golf goes back as far as 50 years. He was a founder committee of OPA Golf in 1970; he was an ex-Organizing Chairman and for the record, he was the overall Champion for the first OPA Golf Tournament. In the last 15 years or so, Uncle John Siow sat in the committee as Tournament Director and later as an Adviser. He has always been vocal and able to make his views known on many issues. His vast experience, his expertise, advice and valuable suggestions will be greatly missed and we take this opportunity to acknowledge our many debts of gratitude to him by wishing Uncle Philip John Siow the very best in good health and every success in his life.
