By Steven Chan Weng Choy,
President
Old Paulians' Association
On the evening of September 6th, 2025, Paulians from around the globe gathered in a spirit of celebration and camaraderie for the OPA Annual Reunion Dinner 2025, commemorating the 99th edition of this cherished event. The occasion was graciously attended by the Honorable Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, himself an alumnus of the school. Also present were De La Salle Brother Director, Bro Andrew Loke fsc; Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dato’ Dr. Bob Samuel; the heads of St. Paul’s Secondary and Primary school; representatives from fellow Lasallian alumni associations; and many distinguished Paulians. This annual gathering is more than a homecoming; it is a heartfelt tribute to our shared history, resilience, and the promising future that lies ahead as we approach the milestone of OPA’s 100th anniversary in 2026.

Following the singing of the national anthems and an inspiring address by our President, Mr. Steven Chan, the evening took an exhilarating turn with a captivating Wushu Taolu demonstration performed by none other than our own Paulian son, Mr. Vincent Wong Weng Son. A distinguished Wushu world champion and proud alumnus of the Class of 2009, Vincent delivered a mesmerising display of skill and precision. With an impressive record of winning two World Championships and earning three World Cup medals, Vincent exemplifies the Paulian spirit of resilience, humility, and excellence, carrying these values from our school’s halls to the global stage. His inspiring showcase aptly highlighted the values that continue to define us as a community committed to greatness.
The evening’s most distinguished highlight was the presentation of the OPA Golden Eagle Award by our esteemed Patron, YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook. This prestigious accolade stands as the highest honor conferred by the Old Paulians’ Association, reserved for individuals who exemplify exceptional, sustained, and selfless service to both the Association and the broader Paulians community. Marking its inaugural edition, the award was bestowed upon four remarkable gentlemen, namely

Mr. Ng Yee Tim, Dato’ Lai See Ming, Mr. Lee Kok Keong, and Mr. Michael Thong. Each of these distinguished recipients has contributed over four decades of continuous and unwavering service to OPA, SPI, and the wider LaSallian network. Their legacies span inspiring leadership, dedicated roles in education, involvement in uniformed units, public service, fundraising initiatives, and institutional development. More than mere participants, they have been visionary architects of the Association's foundation, spirit, and evolution, shaping its trajectory through years of voluntary dedication, steadfast loyalty, and a deep commitment to the Paulian ideals.

This year also marked a momentous celebration of two milestone classes: the Class of 2000, commemorating their 25th anniversary, and the Class of 1975, celebrating its 50th. Their stories, cherished memories, and enduring camaraderie infused the evening with warmth and nostalgia, enriching the fellowship and reinforcing the enduring bond of the Paulian community.

During his speech, the President also paid tribute to two distinguished and generous Paulians whose remarkable
philanthropy exemplifies the true Lasallian spirit. Dato’ Seri Lee Tian Hock graciously donated RM20,000, while Dato’ Sim Keng Piao involvement with multiple NGOs facilitated a generous contribution of RM30,000 to support our organization. Their unwavering generosity underscores the vital importance of giving back and nurturing a sense of community and shared purpose among all Paulians.

As we revel in the festivities, our hearts remain focused on the future. The evening was not only a celebration of our historic past but also a rallying cry as we count down to OPA’s centenary in 2026. United as one family, we are steadfast in our commitment to forging a brighter tomorrow, always guided by our enduring motto: “Once a Paulian, always a Paulian.”

To all our donors, supporters, and friends - your unwavering dedication is the cornerstone of our journey. Your generosity and commitment ensure that the Lasallian values of faith, service, and community continue to flourish, inspiring future generations and upholding the legacy of our shared mission.
